Eljay Films is the work of Liam, a documentary wedding filmmaker with a love for good stories, great light and weddings that don’t take themselves too seriously.

Liam started out in commercial filmmaking, where he learnt composition, lighting and damn good storytelling. But somewhere between the carefully planned shots, scripts and endless retakes, he realised he wanted to make films with a little more life in them.

Then came weddings.

They’re unpredictable, emotional, occasionally chaotic and full of people having the best time. Someone’s crying before midday, champagne is being poured far too generously and by the end of the night, a groomsmen has jumped into the pool. That’s the good stuff.

Eljay Films takes the craft of commercial filmmaking and leaves behind the rules. No awkward poses. No walking through a doorway again because the camera missed it. No drawn out kissing scenes or five minute slow motion montages. Your wedding isn’t a film set, and Liam has no intention of turning it into one.

Instead, he looks for what’s actually happening.

The nerves before the ceremony. Your friends losing it during the speeches. The table you spent six months planning getting progressively more chaotic as dinner goes on. The light changing through the evening. The music, the food, the noise and all those tiny interactions you probably didn’t even know happened.

Every film is shaped by the people, place and energy of the celebration. Liam’s approach is relaxed and instinctive, knowing when to quietly disappear into the background and when to get right amongst it.

The result is something stylish without feeling styled. Beautiful without being too polished. A film with movement, humour, emotion and a whole lot of personality.
